For those of you that followed and have been reading this blog before 2015, I’ve started this class called Blogging 101 offered by WordPress. Basically, it’s a session that aims to give me focus with my writing as a means of discovering my voice, and making my blog appealing in the process. So, any post you see tagged with “Blogging 101” is for that purpose. But hell, it could be informative or entertaining for you guys to read as well, so do what you feel.
For those that followed me because of Blogging 101, hey again! Let’s talk music, k?
With concerts, 2014 was a year I don’t even think I can top regarding like “HOLY CRAP I’M ACTUALLY SEEING THIS ARTIST LIVE”-ness. I pretty much saw every musician I wanted to (awesome cell phone quality photos ahead):
M.I.A. in April
Who also taught me that I should really look out for that “All Ages” tag on tickets because being shoved around by teenagers wishing they had Molly or could buy booze was fun for all of 5 seconds.
BANKS in June
Came into this concert dreading her live singing after reading a review, came out feeling like a new woman. Knew every word to her entire set, even the cover of Aaliyah’s “Are You That Somebody” and enjoyed singing with the chorus of other BANKS fans.
Arcade Fire in August
I’d just got on the AF train in 2011, binge listened to all of their albums since and didn’t think I’d ever get to see them live. Then the Reflektor Tour happened.
The Black Keys in September
What can I say? Take a talented guitarist, drummer, an accompanying band and the Verizon Center in D.C. and you’ve got a great show. A band whose music would work perfectly in a smaller venue proved they could sell out and entertain an arena meant for tens of thousands of people. In addition, the encore where they played the two songs I wanted to hear the most that night almost made me cry tears of joy.
Phantogram in October
This was the show I waited for all year-long. It was the greatest show I’d ever seen and will probably see in a while.
Now in 2015 I’m sitting here like…”Who do I see this year?” I’m so bad when it comes to listening to new bands and new music so I could be missing out on some quality shows if I don’t get my act together. Who are you listening to? Share a playlist me, follow me on Spotify, let’s get our sharing is caring mode on, aight?
Here’s a snippet of a playlist I made so you can get to know me better:
And here’s a clip of Phantogram from October…because everyone should experience this magic.
(WARNING: If you are prone to seizures in any way, avoid watching this. There are a lot of flashing lights)
Hi! Have you listened to Lia Ices? I think you’d probably like her if you’re down with Phantogram and Grimes. I just discovered her myself and she’s about to head out on tour. Mega jealous of all those shows you went to — I’m also working on my seeing-live-music game this year.
OOH! She actually opened for Phantogram when I saw them last year and I meant to look up her stuff and forgot. Thanks for the reminder! 🙂
