Sisterhood of the World Bloggers Award

Two posts in one day, OMGEE. I was nominated by my fellow blogger, Karolyn over at The Eleventh Letter for this award and…-sniff- you like me, you really like me! I’m excited and happy to be getting nominated for something like this because I love the kind of communities you can create and grow on the interwebs. And Karolyn is one girl I can’t wait to get to know better. Not only is she beautiful, but she’s thoughtful and brave and clearly comes from good stock and you guys should really take some time to read her blog. DO IT.

These are the rules:

Thank the blogger who nominated you, linking back to their site. Put the Award logo on your blog. Answer the ten questions sent to you. Make up ten new questions for your nominees to answer. Nominate seven blogs.

Q&A Time!

1. Why did you start blogging?

I started blogging because I had a lot to say about all kinds of things and nobody to listen to me. There was only so much I could whine to my boyfriend about before it started feeling like I was jeopardizing our relationship by being the stereotypical unstable woman. No, but really, I love writing. I used to fill spiral notebooks full of stories when I was a kid and completed what I like to call my first “novel” my junior year of college. Even if I’m not writing to entertain, I like knowing that there’s someone out there who could relate to me on some level and enjoy what I’m saying.

2. What are your dreams and goals for your blog?

Ideally, I’d like to be able to live off of this thing and eliminate any possibility of me ever having to go to work for someone else’s dream which would inevitably lead to my misery. Maybe write a book one day based on it. Then a movie. Then a legacy. Not necessarily in that order.

3. Do you have a specific post that you are really particularly proud of?

YUP! My very first post, On How Attending a Predominantly White School Helped Me Get in Touch With My “Black Side”. I had just given up on another blog I started on Blogger that was going to a very not fun place and I told myself that I needed to start writing from my heart and not from anger. The idea to write a mildly controversial retrospective about my college days came up, and I was very happy with the result. It’s honest and it’s me and it’s the kind of stuff I want to keep writing on this blog. That with the occasional nonsense.

4. What brings you joy?

Accomplishing shit because I have a tendency to pull the start-and-no-finish. Eating chocolate. 3-hour power naps. Traveling as a means of escape from daily monotony. Heartfelt conversations with my mother that I finally get to have as an adult that I truly understand.

5. What topic are you the most passionate about?

Hi. I’m a Feminist. A Black Feminist. There will probably be tons of posts that fit under those categories because representation matters, is important and I will make sure you know. Can’t get more passionate than that.

6. Describe yourself in 3 words

Subversive, confrontational, empathetic

7. Now tell us what your friends would say about you.

“Diane is hilarious and I wish I slept with her when I could.” Of course now, being in a committed relationship, this is impossible. Honestly, I’d hope they’d say I was kind but knew the right times to stand up for myself and others.

8. What inspires you?

Failure. I’ve allowed myself to be talked down from doing the things I’ve truly wanted and I’ve felt like a failure for each of those. They say not to dwell on the past and to leave regret behind, but there are just some things I can’t let go of, mainly because they are the driving force behind why I do what I do. Write what I write. Say what I say. Be who I be.

9. How long have you been blogging?

Officially, since August 2014. I’m a baby.

10. What are your dreams and aspirations?

To be emotionally and financially secure while being back at my freshmen year of college weight with awesome hair and a slew of witty comebacks. Nothing too deep there.
